Guidizzolo Theatre

Guidizzolo Theatre

Type: Palaces and Castles
Town: GUIDIZZOLO

The theatre tradition of Guidizzolo has ancient origins. In 1840, due to the independence turmoil that led this area to new cultural vibrancy, a group of notables formed a “Corporation” to provide the town culture and entertainment. The Theater was first located in the hall on the first floor of the Palace in Via Vittorio Veneto, which hosted up to 80 people. In here, different performances took place, especially prose, in irregular seasons. The life of the “social theater” -as it was called, was to end with the advent of the Great War: the City Hall was in need of new room to reorganize the offices, and so the theater was dismantled.
At the end of the first World War, from 1918 to 1920, a new theater was built in Via Filzi: the original architecture remains today only in the remarkable facade, since the building was reshaped several times over the 60s and 80s.
In 1997, the City applied for and received funds from the National Bank of Labour to adapt the structures and systems according to current regulations. The theater was inaugurated on 29 October 2000.
In these fifteen years, the alternation of dramatic theater and musical seasons and the presence of well-known artists have allowed the Guidizzolo theater to compete with bigger realities, always achieving great success and public approval.
